sleeping dogs

Whoever said, "LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE" didn't sleep with doggies like me. The first thing you discover when you bring a dog into your bed is the striking difference between an alert, awake dog and a dog at rest. You also have to know that doggies can sense what you need, and you may not know it, but we do. And we will act on it. As Amber clung to the edge of the bed last night, wishing she had covers, I began to snore at a volume she didn’t think possible. I was yipping, growling, running and kicking in my dreams and Amber’s bed became our battlefield and the playground of my own canine fantasy. I wanted to sleep curled around Amber’s head like a Daniel Boone cap, and somehow I knew Amber needed to know I was there, and she wasn’t alone.
